Policemen clear the field of enthusiastic fans as The Beatles perform on a bandstand in Candlestick Park, San Francisco, California.

August 29th 1966 The Beatles performed their final “real” concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.

It must be hard to imagine but there was more than 17,000 tickets for the show that went unsold.

The Beatles knew it would be their last concert so took cameras on stage to take pictures of the audience and each other.

Paul McCartney asked their press officer Tony Barrow to record the show.

The band did only 11 songs that night.

You can listen to most of the show in the video below.

The audio comes from the tape Barrow made.

The cassette was 30 minutes per side and the tape ended in the middle of the final song “Long Tall Sally” because Barrow didn’t flip the tape.

If something like this took place today I’m sure it would be much better documented if not by the band then by the audience and all their phones.
