Another Part Of Our Childhood Is Gone

  • 4:34 pm Thursday, April 28th, 2016 by Joe Rock

You may not recognize his name, Les Waas. Mr. Waas has passed away at 94 years old.

Les wrote the Mister Softee theme song and more than 970 jingles.

The Mister Softee them named “Jingle and Chimes” is his most famous.

I was surprised to find out it had lyrics but I can’t seem to find them.

Lets have a moment of silence for another part of our childhood gone.

Then play the theme below.

People have been making a lot out of the perceived bad blood between the original members of Kiss for years.

It hit a peak when the band was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It turns out that Ace Frehley says most of the time they get along.

Being that April 27th 2015 marks Ace’s birthday I thought it would be nice to see him saying nice things about his band mates.

Deer Park Long Island’s own CJ Ramone was the bass player for The Ramones for the band’s final 7 years.

He was brought in when Dee Dee Ramone left.

Being CJ and I know each other we discussed a lot.

Hear him talk everything from being in The Ramones to what other mega band asked him to join to parenting and then some.

Don’t forget CJ will be at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn June 4th.

Since we chatted up a storm I broke the interview into 2 parts.

Part 2

Saturday April 23rd 2016 Bruce Springsteen took the stage at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Without a word he and the band began to play Prince’s “Purple Rain”.

The stage was bathed in purple for the performance.

Nils Lofgren did the emotional ending solo of the song.

When it was done Bruce simply said “Prince forever, God bless!”.

Bruce and Prince were admirers of each others work and had spoken of each other in interviews.

RIP Prince: Watch Him Shred On A Beatles Classic

  • 2:25 pm Thursday, April 21st, 2016 by Joe Rock

I was sad today when I heard the news that Prince passed away.

Although you wouldn’t think of him as a rock artist he certainly had the spirit and the skills.

Watch this clip of him with Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and George Harrison’s son Dahni at George’s induction to The Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

He owns the solo to “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” after that.

Strange that I just mentioned this performance on the air just last night.

Rest in peace Prince.

Got The Tax Day Blues? Then You Might As Well Listen To Some

  • 4:24 pm Friday, April 15th, 2016 by Joe Rock

There aren’t too many blues songs written about having to pay your taxes.

But The Beatles had a tax song that the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan turned into a blues tune.

Give it a listen here to maybe make paying the IRS feel a little less bad.
